How To Choose The Right Minimalist Wrist Watch For You

By Beryl Dalton

Many people rely on technology such as cellular phones or tablets to tell the time. Because of this, a wristwatch has become more of a fashion piece than a necessity. If you think you may want to wear one but do not want one that sticks out, a minimalist wrist watch may be just your thing. Here is how to choose the right one for you.

The ability to mark the passing of time has been important for thousands of years. Originally, marked candles, water clocks and sundials were used. Over the years, other methods of keeping time were developed. Portable, accurate devices became necessary and the technology to create them advanced. Eventually, it became possible to make small, portable devices that could be kept in a pocket or worn on a wrist.

The first thing to consider is whether you want one that is analog or digital. Both types come in minimalist styles. Often, digital versions can keep track of other information such as your activity level or even work as a way to communicate with devices such as a cell phone. Analog versions can keep track of information such as the date or moon phase. Some can even be used as stop watches.

The next is to consider how minimalist you want your timepiece to be. Most pieces that are made in this style have very simple faces. They may lack numbers or only have one. Some will have marks that indicate the different numbers while others rely on you to judge what the time would be from the relative position of the hands.

You may think that a style with no numbers will look great but you may want to think about how easy it will be to tell time at a glance. It might be helpful to at least choose a piece that has lines at four points on the face so that you can tell time quickly and accurately.

Trying on pieces is a good idea. Remember that larger faces and heavier materials will usually result in a more masculine-feeling piece. If you have a smaller frame or want a more feminine piece, you may want to think about a smaller wristwatch.

You might also want to think about the material that is used for the band and the face. A more minimalist look may mean that the watch is all one color. You can find bands that are made of metal while others are leather or synthetic materials. Often, you can swap out the band to match outfits and to give variety without buying multiple watches.

Shopping online can be a great place to start. You can search a number of different sites to see what they have to offer. You can also look at user reviews and get an idea of what pricing would be before you buy. You may also want to look at jewelry shops. They will have a good selection to choose from and you can see the piece up close and in person.
