A New Parent's Guide To Buying Hair Clips For Baby Girls

By Lena Stephenson

One of the fun things about a new baby girl is being able to dress her up in all sorts of fun outfits. One thing that many parents want to do is to be able to style her hair as well as dress her up. There are many different hair clips for baby girls available on the market today. Here are suggestions you can use when you are shopping for your new daughter.

One thing you need to keep in mind when you start your search is what kind of hair the little girl has. Some babies have a lot of hair when they are born while others are nearly bald. For most babies, there may be a lot of hair but it can still be quite fine. This may influence which accessories you choose.

Also remember that infants and young children do not usually like to sit still. This means that anything you are putting in their hair needs to go in quickly and securely. You may find that you are trying to put the item in while a child is moving around. Because of this, the right options will be ones you can use one handed and which are easy to open and close.

You may also want to think about how long the child will be wearing the clip or elastic. Babies will often fall asleep on a frequent basis, especially when they are very young. You may want to make sure that the clip or elastic you are using is soft enough that it will not hurt the baby if she falls asleep with it still in place. The last thing you want to do is to try and remove an accessory from a baby who has fallen asleep.

You may find that a child will be resistant to having anything in their hair. This is more likely if a child has not had their hair handled from a very young age. Being patient and trying a few times with any particular style may mean that you have a more cooperative child to work with. If there is a special event coming up and you want to style your child's locks you might want to consider some practice runs that will let her get a feel for the items you are putting in her hair.

Some babies hate having anyone pull or move their tresses and may kick up a fuss if you try to put in clips or barrettes. They may, however, be willing to accept a headband. By being patient and letting a child get used to having things in their hair, you may find that you have better success later down the road when you may want to try more ambitious hairstyles.

Finding the actual accessories themselves is not difficult. You may want to make sure you are looking on a website that features children's items. If you want to look at options before buying them you may want to check out department stores, children's stores and drug stores to see what options they offer.

Then, it is time to try your hand at styling. Start out simple and work from there. If you are patient and work with your child you may be amazed at how neat and tidy you can get her hair to look.
