The Significance Of Wearing Bone Jewelry

The documentation of civilization ornaments dates thousands of years ago. Although styles and designs for jewelry may differ from other people. Natives also help in common a certain belief that ornaments had also their spiritual meaning. In history, jewelries would reflect social and religious customs of unique groups. Tribal jewelries were considered as contact with helpful spirits and a type of medicine.

Styles are common to many tribes including nose rings, necklaces, armlets, earrings and other ornamentation. One carving is as old as the civilization itself. Earliest people carved bone for household implements, adornment and tools. Every culture that carves African bone jewelry, carves icons unique to their surroundings and heritage. The majority of these cultures is believed that the wearer's essence is penetrated to the bone as they wear it.

When the wearer dies, the carving can be passed on the next one and benefits from the essence of the carved bones. An old carving bone is often the color of dark honey. A lot of traditional carved bone pieces find the origins evolving in the pieces of art with a spiritual message. These days, carvings are known as a perfect travel gift.

Carving indicates cultural identities, or a valuable talisman and a family heirloom. Most of the carved jewelries may come in different materials and shapes. There are also mirrors traditional shapes and styles and others have distinct signatures of the carver, while others may venture to contemporary designs. There are also varieties that make the carving valuable gifts for lots of occasions.

When making a jewelry piece, most of the carvers are choosing materials for their spiritual and magical qualities. Usually, sticks, crystals, shells, animal claws and other things used in creating necklaces, bracelets and earrings which are worn by both men and women. Hunters and their tribes adorn themselves with animal bones and parts in order to gain protection and strength from the animal spirits.

Although most jewelries had spiritual meaning, some would indicate social status or worn simply for decoration. The general belief is when an ornamental carving changes owner as family heirloom, the spiritual energy may strengthen the new owner. The higher and important achievements of the owner have been the more valuable and powerful that these carvings becomes.

Bones of humans, dogs, whales and birds were mostly the materials in most traditional carvings apart from shells. These materials serve a great purpose like the size, shape and strength. Highly treasures such as whalebones are used for size and density as they represent the God of sea. Today, beef bones are being used for many carved pendants.

Smoking with honey or leaves may result to color variations that may enhance the natural textures in carve jewelry pieces. Some of the carvers could reach the color nuances but with the use of several crafts. Most of the sources are horse bones, pig tusks, deer antlers and goat horns.

Most carvings combine elements from various areas of mythology which can interact with each other to tell a story. Most of these give most carvings its own special character. These creations have great respect for nature and have lots of legends about the creation of earth and all inhabitants. The meanings of these elements may vary from region to region b sharing common roots.
